The educational mission of the Sisters of Saint Gildas in Réo

Education, a fundamental human right, is a vital driver of personal and social development. Education, as a whole, aims to transmit knowledge, values, and skills grounded in the flourishing of the human being. It is both received and given for personal and social well-being.

The mission of education in our community is lived out through action, closeness, witness, and community engagement to build a more humane, peaceful, and supportive society. Within the parish, we have four Catholic secondary schools and a primary school, so the need is clearly felt. Among these students, many receive life lessons (knowledge, skills, and character) from us every day. For example, parents testify to the effectiveness of the education in these terms: “here children do not only receive an intellectual education but an education of the whole person,” “in your school, there is seriousness, rigor, success and individual support for each learner, hence the positive change in the child at home.”

The transmission of this knowledge also takes place in the classroom through theoretical and practical lessons. Through listening, attentiveness, and patience, we identify each student’s difficulties in their work, seeking ways to guide them and instill in them a love of learning, such as repeated exercises, explanations, encouragement, and guided activities.

Following this human and intellectual education, Christian education occupies a central place in the social dimension, hence the loving self-giving of each individual through leading catechesis and supporting Catholic Action movements.

Our educational mission is not only to transmit this knowledge, but it is also realized in our ways of being and acting, so that we may live together the mysteries of Christ (his passion, death, and resurrection) through active participation in the sacraments.

We remember the passage, “Jesus began to teach them at length, for they were like sheep without a shepherd.” Mark 6:34
