Mission
Following Christ the Servant
In societies seeking how to make room for everyone yet tempted to prioritize the high achievers
we wish to reach out to those who stand in solidarity with the humblest and work to help everyone grow in humanity.
We seek to put into practice our commitment to follow Jesus the Servant by:
- emphasizing a life of closeness to others,
- living out a preferential solidarity with the poor, allowing ourselves to be taught by them, and upholding the dignity of every person.
Proclaiming the Gospel
In multicultural and multi-religious societies, societies searching for meaning yet tempted to offer illusory forms of happiness,
we wish to join with those who propose Christ as the path to life and happiness.
Called to give meaning to our charism of education and healthcare, we seek to put into practice our commitment to follow Jesus the Servant, the One sent by the Father, by:
- living under the Word of God and sharing prayer with others,
- prioritizing the poor and the young,
- devising new forms of Gospel-inspired love that foster human and spiritual growth,
- giving our lives and our strength to the very end,
- risking our lives for God with trust and hope.
Living out a missionary fraternity together
In globalized societies that yearn for unity and fraternity, yet struggle to find paths to dialogue and communion,
we wish to join hands with those who are artisans of peace and reconciliation.
Called to live out a daily “tender charity” marked by thoughtfulness, attentiveness, and respect, we seek to put into practice our commitment to follow Jesus the Servant, who loved to the very end:
- allowing ourselves to be touched by God’s tenderness and forgiveness,
- receiving from the Other the capacity to love without barriers of age or culture, to make peace, and to forgive,
- working to build social bonds and fostering whatever leads to dialogue and reconciliation,
- living with a bold trust in God and in others.
Cultivating an Evangelical and Missionary Way of Life
In societies embarking on new paths of humanization—yet tempted by individualism, the primacy of money, and the pursuit of power,
we wish to reach out to those who place the human person at the heart of economic, social, and political choices.
Called to imbue our entire existence with simplicity, we seek to put into practice our following of Jesus the Servant, who entrusts all things to his Father:
- renewing our commitment to poverty, chastity, and obedience,
- valuing fraternal and community life,
- adopting a lifestyle that respects creation,
- seeking paths of sharing and solidarity,
- placing gratuitousness at the heart of our relationships,
- working collaboratively and accepting that others may carry on the work we have begun.
Living out an educational charism
It is a call to show deep respect for others—a way of being that invites the other person to take a step forward, to go a little further, to value themselves, and to gain confidence in themselves and in others. It is a way of being close and attentive, without ever regarding oneself as superior. It means inviting others to learn and understand so they can live better, take responsibility, find their place, and act within their own communities. It encompasses a thousand and one ways for everyone to grow in humanity.
For the Sisters of Saint-Gildas, this educational charism is not limited to those who teach in primary or secondary schools; it applies to every sister, regardless of her profession, the activities she carries out, or the services she provides.
